Dear friends,

The Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch
Relay in Kemerovo
The Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay continued its procession through the
Kemerovo district. On November 30 252 torchbearers through the city of Kemerovo
carried the Olympic flame. The route
along city streets stretched across 40 km.
The region's dignitaries greeted the Sochi 2014 Torch Relay team at the
Kemerovo train station. Nikolay Valuev, a professional boxer in the super
heavyweight class was the first torchbearer of the day. He wished our team to
handle the excitement and win as many medals as possible: "When all 14,000
torchbearers have run with the Olympic flame, the matter will go to the
athletes - a great deal will depend on them. Performing at home is always twice
as difficult because the home stands add confidence, but at the same time they
can add psychological pressure. We support all of our Olympic athletes in
advance - after all, a great deal lies before them!"
The
day spent in the capital of the Kemerovo district was marked by a new
achievement. Maxim Baklanov became the fastest torchbearer, covering his
distance at a speed of 26 km/hr.
The Flame of the Olympic Games in Sochi illuminated
significant sites of the capital of Kuzbass for which the region is famous: the
museum preserve "Krasnaya Gorka", the "Shakhter"
("Miner") stadium, the "Kuzbass" sports center, and the
monument dedicated to the miners of Kuznetsk Bassin with a "glowing"
heart, symbolizing the courageous labor of the coal industry workers. The
Olympic flame was also carried through the streets of the new residential area
"Lesnaya Polyana", one of the youngest European-style satellite
cities, our city of the future.
